For more than six decades, Pierre Boulez has had greater influence on the development of contemporary music than anyone else. Already in younger days, he gained a reputation as a doughty champion of the avant-garde. With his compositions, interpretations, and ideas he indelibly shaped the international music scene - not only as a composer and conductor, but also as a music philosopher and teacher. The documentary 'Inheriting the Future of Music: Pierre Boulez and the Lucerne Festival Academy' is a homage to him on the occasion of his 85th birthday on 26 March 2010. For the past five summers, Pierre Boulez and highly gifted young musicians from all over the world have converged for intensive rehearsal weeks during which they learn from the maestro and one another, discuss and play selected compositions, and finally present subsequently the fruits of their labour in a number of outstanding concerts. To convey the fascination for contemporary music, the documentary captures the perspectives of Pierre Boulez and the young conductors, composers, and musicians involved. Their infectious enthusiasm gives viewers an emotional access to the world of new music. Accompanied with retrospective accounts, this endeavour narrates significant experiences and encounters in Boulez' career and gives a graphical depiction of the way he passes these experiences on to his current students. Consequently, this makes selected works by Stravinsky, Stockhausen, and Boulez more approachable. On a different level, it demonstrates how strongly personal experiences leave their mark on individual action, aesthetic sensitivity, and our perception of others.

It is difficult not to come across him when you like jazz and its related music: we can hear him in the Supersonic by Thomas de Pourquery, alongside Camélia Jordana with Lost, with his rock group Poni Hoax, in the electro detours Sabrina & Samantha, and even at the heart of Limousine, with whom he released an excellent recording in the spring. L'Été suivant. Laurent Bardainne comes back today with this incredibly free quartet, entitled Tigre d'Eau Douce. Music which recalls Albert Ayler's Laments and John Coltrane's freeest hours, all of which is crisscrossed by ballads and soothing moments in the colours of Soul spirituality played out on the Hammond B3 organ by Arnaud Roulin. Being a female conductor means being an exception. Even today. When a woman stands on the podium she is, in most cases, somehow 'the first': the first to lead a world-class orchestra, the first to conduct the 'Last Night of the Proms' in London, the first to win the German Conductor Prize. But it seems that the world of the maestro is now in a state of upheaval. The young Lithuanian conductor Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, who took over the post of Andris Nelsons in Birmingham, said with conviction: 'I really believe that something is changing now.' But why is it that there have been so few female conductors in the international music scene? To take a closer look at this phenomenon, the film MAESTRAS follows several female conductors at Lucerne Festival 2016, which with the motto 'PrimaDonna' dedicated itself to this theme. Through the rehearsals, concerts and talks with participants of various professions at the Lucerne Festival the film approaches this subject. Along with the female musicians of the festival, the life of the former conductor Sylvia Caduff is followed. The Swiss woman was the first female assistant to Leonard Bernstein and directed the Berlin Philharmonic in 1978 when she filled in for Herbert von Karajan.

Historia telewizji Mezzo
Telewizja Mezzo została założona w 1992 roku przez francuską publiczną grupę mediową France Télévisions. Do roku 1998 nosiła nazwę France Supervision. W 2001 roku Mezzo połączyła się z francuskim kanałem muzycznym Muzzik, zachowując swoją nazwę. Logo stacji składa się z czerwonego napisu „mezzo” ze stylizowaną literą „m”. Siostrzaną stacją telewizji Mezzo jest Mezzo Live HD – kanał nadawany od kwietnia 2010 roku.
Oficjalna siedziba stacji znajduje się w Paryżu we Francji. Obecnym właścicielem jest francuska telewizja publiczna oraz francuska spółka mediowa Grupa Canal+. Aktualnie stacja dociera aż do blisko 60 milionowej widowni i jest dostępna w ponad 80 krajach na całym świecie – w tym w krajach Skandynawskich, w Portugalii, Rosji czy w Polsce.
Od samego początku telewizja Mezzo poświęcona była promocji muzyki klasycznej, jazzu i tańca wśród szerszej widowni. Zamysłem było dotarcie nie tylko do zaprawionych melomanów, ale także osób rozpoczynających przygodę z muzyką poważną. Oferta kanału składa się z programów w różnym formacie. Repertuar obejmuje różne gatunki i formy sztuki klasycznej – m.in. operę, balet, koncerty symfoniczne, jazzowe czy recitalie. Krótko- i pełnometrażowe występy nadawane są w blokach. Przeplatane są programem muzycznym „ InterMezzo ”.
