Opis
Lata wojny w Wietnamie. W obozie szkoleniowym Joker (Matthew Modine) ma się przygotować do działań na froncie. Zostaje przydzielony do grupy sadystycznego sierżanta Hartmana (R. Lee Ermey), który poddaje swoich podkomendnych wyczerpującemu psychicznie i fizycznie treningowi. Szczególnie znęca się nad Gomerem (Vincent D'Onofrio). Chłopak nie wytrzymuje presji i wkrótce popełnia samobójstwo. Niebawem cały pluton przenosi się do Wietnamu. Joker pełni tam funkcję korespondenta wojennego. Młodzi żołnierze, m.in. Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin), Eightball (Dorian Harewood), Rafterman (Kevyn Major Howard) oraz dowódca kompanii Cowboy (Arliss Howard), trafiają w sam środek piekła wojny. Biorą udział w krwawej walce. Gdy zostają ostrzelani przez wyborowego strzelca, dokonują przerażającego odkrycia... Studium okrutnego procesu dehumanizacji, któremu poddawani są żołnierze. Okrucieństwo szkolenia, a następnie sama wojna sprawiają, że młodzi mężczyźni stają się maszynami do zabijania. Premiera filmu zbiegła się w czasie z wejściem na ekrany "Plutonu" Olivera Stone'a. Obraz wpisał się więc w trwające w latach 80. rozrachunki z wojną w Wietnamie.
